Last week, I took some time off to enjoy slow mornings and long lunches with my family in our new home in the hilltops of Granada, Spain.
Stepping back like that got me thinking about one of the main mistakes I see experts and thought leaders making: mistaking consistency for commitment.
We’ve all heard the advice:
Show up every single day. Publish constantly. Shout about your expertise.
The truth? Consistency without commitment is just box-ticking. It’s fragile.
The moment life throws you a curveball – a sick child, a looming deadline, sheer overwhelm – that perfect streak shatters.
Commitment is different. Commitment is about your mission, not just your method.
When you’re committed to becoming the leading voice in your space, you find ways to move forward even when your routine gets disrupted. You adjust. You forgive yourself (read that one again). You keep your eyes on the big picture.
So, if you want to commit to a strategy that works – one that elevates your expertise, positions you as a trusted authority, and attracts next-level opportunities – here’s where I would double down after the summer break:
1. Stop Outshouting Your Competitors
Start becoming the voice your audience is actively looking for.Look at the questions they’re asking — in forums, in your inbox, in conversations — and create content that answers them directly.
Remember the “keep it or share it” rule: if your content isn’t valuable enough for your audience to either keep for future reference or share with someone else — don’t press send.
2. Implement the 30-Day Question Challenge
For one month, commit to answering one significant question from your audience every day. This isn’t about perfect production — it’s about consistent contribution.
Here are some places to start collecting questions: Direct client interactions, Industry forums and social media groups, Email surveys to existing contacts, Competitor content comment sections – or just sending out an email or post to ask!
3. Master the Bulletproof Structure
When answering these questions, follow a simple three-part framework to turn your expertise into epic stories that people want to engage with and share:
- Open with a common myth or assumption.
- Deliver the answer wrapped in a human story that makes it compelling and relevant.
- Close with a clear, actionable next step.
This transforms random content into powerful stories that build authority through real human connection with your audience.
4. Find Your “Power Topics”
At the end of the month, track what content gained the most engagement and traction. These are your natural authority zones — lean into them.
Once you’ve found your power topics: focus on identifying other authorities within those areas — who have established platforms. Look for opportunities to collaborate, share each other’s work, and endorse each other’s ideas. This will 10X your reach while expanding your network with incredible new minds.
5. Create Trust Through Anticipation
Those who move from ‘authority’ to trusted authority have a rhythm to showing up that audiences can both anticipate and look forward to. We know where to find them and (roughly) when to expect them.
This isn’t about sticking to an unforgiving schedule that burns you out: this is about teaching your audience where and when to meet you, and creating a space they can return to as part of their own routine.
The path to massive impact isn’t paved with more content, more platforms, or more self-promotion.
It’s built through strategic focus, valuable contribution, and the courage to show up over the long-term rather than simply ticking boxes.
The truth about focusing on commitment rather than consistency? You create more room for joy, connection and enjoying the life and impact you’ve already created.
Oh and the paella… don’t forget the paella…
Keep showing up.
